Leo's Food Day Ends at 1:30 on State Road 1 and Starts Again by the Reservoir

"Breakfast, lunch, and dinner hours, seven days a week." That was the plan Whatzup reported on July 15, when Leo Cafe at 15024 State Road 1 passed to the Best Breakfast In Town group, the owners behind Klemm's on Wells, Rich's Cafe in New Haven and Klemm's Kafe in Huntington. The cafe was set to reopen July 20. By August 5, Whatzup confirmed it was open again. The same item listed the hours as 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. daily and described the group as known for "traditional breakfast and lunch menus, early hours, and longstanding ties to their communities."

The group's own Leo Cafe page also shows no dinner service. It lists 6 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on weekdays and 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on weekends. The weekday opening time in that listing and in Whatzup's report don't match, but both stop serving at 1:30.

So the reopening settled a question about Leo-Cedarville's food day. The core of town runs on mornings. From early afternoon on, eating out in Leo depends on a few businesses at the edges: a reservoir-side restaurant on Leo Road, two pizza kitchens and a seasonal ice cream window on Hosler. This October, some of those are already on fall schedules. Read hour by hour, the town's food day looks like this.

6:00 a.m. The mornings are fully covered

Before noon, Leo has more options than at any other time of day. Leo Cafe opens first on weekdays. It now serves the same menu as its sister diners, because Best Breakfast In Town says one menu and one set of prices apply at all its locations. That shared menu includes chorizo polenta, chorizo tacos, a Philly cheesesteak, burgers and a fish basket. If you've eaten at Klemm's on Wells, the Leo menu will look familiar. The group has run its restaurants since 1985.

Perk's Peak covers coffee. Its site lists coffee, tea, smoothies, muffins and cookies. A third-party coffee directory places it at 9715 St. Joseph St. and lists hours of 6:50 to 11:45 a.m., Tuesday through Saturday, closed Sunday and Monday. Perk's Peak's own contact page doesn't post a weekly schedule, so check before a Saturday run. If that listing is right, though, the two morning anchors close within about two hours of each other, and both are done before most offices break for lunch.

The State Road 1 stretch also has daytime shops a few doors apart. Cedar Creek Candles at 15011 SR 1 has sold handcrafted goods since 1999. The Home Collection at 15026 Center St. sells home decor.

1:30 p.m. The center of town stops cooking

Once Leo Cafe closes, a sit-down meal in the middle of town is hard to find. The new ownership didn't change that. It built the restaurant around the group's existing model of early opening and breakfast-and-lunch service.

The quiet stretch that follows matters most on weekdays. On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, Gracey's Goodies at 10526 Walnut St. is open until 6 p.m. It's a bakery built around custom cakes, cupcakes, cookies and dessert tables, and it also serves specialty drinks. On Saturdays, Gracey's runs 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and it's closed Sunday through Tuesday. On a Monday or Tuesday afternoon, then, the core of Leo has no café or bakery counter open at all.

For a few months, Thursday evenings filled some of that gap. The Leo-Cedarville Farmers Market ran 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursdays, May through August, at Riverside Gardens Park. Its foundation calls the 2026 season "a massive success." The market is done until May, so those Thursday evenings at Riverside Gardens are back to an empty park lawn.

2:00 p.m. The ice cream window on Hosler is on fall hours

The Frozen Spoon at 10523 Hosler Rd. is the clearest sign of the season. Its home page lists fall hours of 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday, closed Monday through Wednesday. The shop doesn't post a closing date. It asks customers to follow its social media for the last day of the season. Its contact page already says "see you in the spring," and one image on the site shows different Saturday hours. Check its social media before you make the drive.

If those posted fall hours are still running, The Frozen Spoon opens about half an hour after Leo Cafe closes on Thursdays through Saturdays.

5:00 p.m. Dinner happens on Leo Road and at the pizza ovens

Steady Eddy's Station at 14436 Leo Rd. carries most of Leo's dinner trade. Visit Fort Wayne describes it as a casual food stop on the Cedarville Reservoir with access to the water. The Visit Fort Wayne guide to Leo adds craft beer and wine to the list. A directory listing gives restaurant hours of 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 to 9 on Friday and Saturday, and 11 to 8 on Sunday. That's a third-party schedule, so call before a late Sunday.

The place also has a season of its own. Steady Eddy's rents kayaks, canoes and paddleboards daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. through its Leo location. Fort Wayne Outfitters says paddlesport rentals run May through October, weather permitting, and doesn't publish a final date. For the next few weekends, an early dinner by the reservoir can still start with an hour on the water. After that, it's just dinner.

Pizza fills in the rest of the week:

  • Marco's Pizza, 15007 IN-1. A directory updated October 2, 2026, lists 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday. If that's accurate, it's the latest kitchen in town by a wide margin.
  • East of Chicago, 11119 Grabill Rd. A directory updated September 18, 2026, lists Tuesday through Thursday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday 4 to 9 p.m., closed Monday. The same listing says the dining room may be closed at times even during posted hours.

Just outside town, Visit Fort Wayne's Northwest dining map lists The Woodhouse among the restaurants in the Grabill area. Its listed hours come from a profile the restaurant hasn't verified, so call ahead.

Put the evening options side by side and Monday stands out. East of Chicago is closed, The Frozen Spoon is closed and Gracey's is closed, which leaves Steady Eddy's and Marco's.

Saturday, Oct. 31, 3:00 p.m. The one afternoon the park is full

On one afternoon this month, the town's own calendar fills the middle of the day. The Town of Leo-Cedarville is hosting Trick or Treat on the Trail at Riverside Gardens Park on October 31, which falls on a Saturday this year. The Pumpkin Walk contest starts at 3 p.m., and trick-or-treating runs from 4 to 6 p.m. The event is free and wheelchair accessible.

On a Saturday, that timing fits around the posted hours. Leo Cafe has been closed for more than an hour by the time the Pumpkin Walk opens, and Gracey's closes at 3. If The Frozen Spoon is still in season, its Saturday window on Hosler opens at 2 and runs until 9. Steady Eddy's and Marco's both list Saturday hours that go well past 6 p.m., when trick-or-treating ends.

The Cedar Creek Parks Trail is also longer than it was a year ago. In November 2025, Fort Wayne Trails celebrated new Cedar Creek Parks Trail sections, including a half-mile segment linking Metea Park North to existing trail at Hursh and Halter roads. Those additions brought the trail to just under 5.5 miles. On a mild Halloween afternoon, there's room to walk off the candy before dinner.

The weeks after Halloween will tell you more about the town's winter schedule. Paddling season ends with October. The Frozen Spoon will post its last day. The farmers market is months away. As of this month, Leo Cafe's posted hours still start at 6 on weekday mornings and end at 1:30.

Hours like these are part of what it's like to own a home in a particular corner of Leo-Cedarville, whether that's a walk from State Road 1 or a short drive from the reservoir.
